How to apply to a Nordic university: a step-by-step guide
applicationsgetting-startedswedenfinland
Applying to a university in Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Norway or Iceland follows a predictable rhythm. Knowing it a year ahead is the single biggest advantage you can give yourself.
## 12–10 months before intake
Build a shortlist of five to eight programmes. Check the exact entry requirements for each — Nordic universities are strict about prerequisite courses, especially in mathematics and computing.
## 9–7 months before intake
Sit your English test (IELTS or TOEFL) and request certified transcripts from your current institution. Both take longer than people expect.
## 6–5 months before intake
Most Swedish and Finnish programmes apply through a national portal with a January deadline for an August start. Upload documents early; portals get slow near the deadline.
## After you submit
Track your application status, respond quickly to any request for missing documents, and prepare for the possibility of an interview or entrance exam.
